| STOP OR REPAIR THAT WARPED FRONT | |
|
|
|
| Fit two supports made out of wood as shown in picture above. This will stop accidents caused by putting something on the front of your Sinclair C5. If you have a warped front place supports underneath and let a warm room or the Sun slowly restore it to its original position. I store all my Sinclair C5's with supports when not in use. | |

SINCLAIR C5 MOTOR ARMATURE |
| Sunday, 18 January 2004 | |
| Having fitted a fan to cool the motor and tested my C5 around the village of Lancing in West Sussex with great success it was time to put it to the test. A trip from Lancing to Shoreham Airport and back. All went well stopped on the way to talk to many people interested in my Sinclair C5, even overtaken by a police man who waved. Then all drive from the motor to my wheels stopped and a noise of gears grinding together. My only option to peddle home. The motor gear box is of the brown early type I think a new one is in order . | |

Cycle Computer Fitted |
Pick up Sensor and Magnet |
| Get Cat Eye Computer cut the wire to the pick up sensor in half. Mount the pick up sensor and magnet as in the picture above. Fit pair of wires from brake wheel to pod at front of C5. Connect pickup sensor (which is a reed switch) to brake end of wires and the computer to pod end. You should now configure your computer to correct wheel size and use. Good Luck! | |

let’s try and answer some of the questions that I keep getting asked.
How Much
Should I Pay for a Sinclair C5?
What is my Sinclair C5 Worth?
Can I use any 12v battery without damaging my Sinclair C5.
What should I lookout for when buying a Sinclair c5.
1. What type of motor? The early motors had brown fingers that hold gearbox in place. The fingering becomes very brittle and will disintegrate making it impossible to remove gearbox for greasing. The only way to grease gearbox on this type of motor is to dismantle it and grease through hole left after removing armature. Later Motor has creamy end which remains flexible. Replacement Motor if you can find one £150
2. Gearbox check for ware on drive cog. Replacement Gearbox £50 but are very difficult to find.
3. Front Wheel Cover if missing £45 to replace but also difficult to find.
4. Hub Centres to replace £20 but very rare.
5. Rust on Chassis if only surface rust can be rubbed down and painted.
6. Pod and Control Box £130 to replace but can be repaired by myself for £53.50.
7. General appearance and condition. Dirty Sinclair C5s can be cleaned with Cif Cream kitchen cleaner. Scratches are more difficult to remove but can be filled with Plastech a plastic repair system
What
should I do to my Sinclair C5 that I have just purchased?
1.
Service Motor, Grease Gearbox
plus all Wheel & Drive Bearings. If
you need more information contact me.
2. Replace Drive Belt and fit my Bracket to stop Motor Drive Belt Slipping. Drive Belt £15 from C5ALIVE Mod Bracket £12.99 from C5MARTIN
3. Replace all tyres and inner tubes as originals are 20years old and perished. £36 from C5ALIVE
4. Brake cables and front brake blocks. Available from C5ALIVE or your local cycle shop.
5.
Fit battery
connectors or use original system with appropriate battery.
85Ahr Leisure battery will fit with a change to quick release connectors.
Also you can keep original system and fit batteries
with conversion kit available from
C5ALIVE
Any of above prices are for guidance
only. If you need more advice please contact me C5martin
My first Sinclair C5 was purchased on eBay for £225 but required chain tensioner, front wheel cover, new tyres and tubes. It also had early motor which had to be replaced including gearbox that disintegrated. I spent over £225 and a lot of time to get it back to a fully functional Classic Vehicle.
From the information above you should be able to decide for yourself what a Sinclair C5 is worth.
Remember a
Sinclair C5 is a 20 year old Classic Vehicle and not a Go Cart.
LUCKY PEOPLE WITH NEW C5s
If you are one of the lucky people to have one of the latest batch of NEW SINCLAIR C5s just remember that it is still a 20 year old vintage vehicle.
The grease will not have moved and may have hardened especially in the gearbox.
If you do not intend to replace the grease in you gearbox, I would suggest that you jack up your C5 and run the motor with no load on it for 30 minutes. The running of your motor with no load will help to remove any possible manufacturing defects on the gearing and help to rejuvenate the grease. The best option would be to strip down the gearbox and replace the grease with? (The choice of grease is debateable I use LM grease. You make your own choice.) Also most important, if one is not fitted, is to fit motor mod type bracket that can be purchased from me C5martin. Also think carefully about replacing the drive belt with one of C5ALIVE’s wider ones. This is much cheaper in the long run than trying to find a replacement gearbox. Keep an eye on your tyres and inner tubes as they are also 20 years old most of the original inner tubes are of a poor grade rubber and are porous.
If you need more advice I am on the end of a phone.
I do not have one of the New Sinclair C5 and am very jealous!
